Every plants needs sun light to grow, but right amount of light is very important for it to thrive. But sometimes certain parts of our home may not get much sun. Usually rooms with no windows, the room that is north facing or the room that has obstruction of light are the spaces that will have low light conditions. Indoor plants can enhance the beauty of such space and make it more lively. There are indoor plants that do not need a lot of sunlight and can sustain in low light.

Low light condition for plants means a situation when the plants fail to get direct sun light or the light source may be far from the plants. The plants that thrive in indirect light and is tolerant towards shady space are low light plants.

Most of the Low light indoor plants are considered to have broad leaves to absorb and use as much light as they can get. Even in nature these plants grow in shade.

If you are hesitant to try growing houseplants in your home or a particular space because it is does not receive enough sun. These indoor plants adapt very well.

1. Chinese Evergreen

This good-looking plant is not only popular for is beauty, it is also one of the best easy to care indoor plants that do not need a lot of sunlight. It has broad decorative leaves with gorgeous patterns in colors that come in a range of glossy greens, silvers, grays, and cream. Although cultivated as a foliage plant, it occasionally bears greenish, calla lily like blooms that develop into bright red, long-lasting berries.

2. Spider Plant

The spider plant is one of the most adaptable plants that are easy to care for. This plant is not very demanding and can also grow in low light conditions. The plant got its name because of the spiderettes that dangle from the mother plant like the spiders on the web. This plant does not bear colorful flowers but the spiderettes often start out as small white flowers.  You can report the spiderettes and grow a new plant

Water the plant when the soil is dried out. The tips will turn brown if it does not get sufficient water. Fluoride found in water, which causes salt buildup in the soil also turns the tips brown.

3. Peace lily

The peace lily is easy to care for house plants. It is also one of the indoor plants that do not need a lot of sunlight. With proper care and the right light, it may produce white to off white flowers in early summer and continue to bloom throughout the year. It has a stem that is like succulent from which leaves grows. The leaves look oval, waxy, and glossy.

4. Snake plant

Snake plant (Sansevieria trifasciata) is also known as Mother-In-Law’s Tongue. Most of the snake plant tends to have stiff, upright, sword-like leaves that may be banded or edged in gray, silver, or gold. Snake plant is a low maintenance indoor plants and very tolerant of negligence.

5. Pothos

Pothos is one of the easiest of all indoor plants to care for. It can handle wide range of conditions and still perform well. This plant has pointed heart shaped green leaves that are sometimes variegated with white, yellow, or pale green. Along with being attractive and easy to care for, it is a very good air purifier as well.

6. Clivia

7. Dieffenbachia

Dieffenbachia will make a very good houseplant and this is one of the indoor plants that do not need a lot of sunlight. These plants can grow up to six feet tall and has bushy wide leaves. The leaves are yellow near their veins and turns dark green towards the edge of the leaf. The transition is very random, but adds beauty to the plant.

9. Cast iron plant

This plant lives up-to its name and is a very tolerant and hardy houseplant. Cast iron plant is an easy to care for plant and will survive through neglect that would kill any other lesser plants. It is one of the best indoor plants can do not need a lot of sunlight.

This plant thrives on low light condition and cannot sustain direct sunlight. Make sure not to over water it which may cause root rot. Let the soil dry out between watering.

10. ZZ plants

ZZ plants are beautiful, tough, and easy to care for the plant which is tolerant to low light condition and do not need a lot of sunlight . One of the best features of this indoor plant is, it is also a very good air-purifying plant. ZZ plant grows to a height and width of two to three feet.

11. Philodendron

12. Bromeliads

Bromeliads are wonderful houseplants that are available in different vibrant colors. These indoor plants do not need a lot of sunlight and are beautiful addition to add ambience in a gloomy space

In general, these plants need bright indirect light instead of direct sun light. These plants can also thrive on fluorescent lighting if natural light is not available. Prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause damage to the leaves.

13. Lucky bamboo

Lucky bamboo looks like a bamboo plant, but it is a type of tropical water lily called Dracaena Sanderiana. This indoor plants can be grown either in soil or in water. It is a low maintenance which makes it great house plant and it is also one of the beautiful indoor plants that do not need a lot of sunlight. It can be trained into different shapes like swirl, braid, and other designs.

These plants need indirect sun light. If the plant is growing in water, it should be replaced in every 7 to 10 days. If it is planted in soil, the soil should be kept slightly damp. Make sure not to over water or let it dry.

14. Air plants

Air plants are interesting indoor plants that do not need soil to grow. These plants also do nor need a lot of sunlight to thrive. It may seem confusing to grow because of the of lack need of soil, but these plants are easy to grow and maintain. These plants absorb water and nutrients through scales on their leaves. Air plants have strap-shaped or slender triangle-shaped leaves that grow in a rosette pattern with a new growth.

They prefer bright but indirect light. Avoid direct sun light for air plants. Proper air circulation is important for air plants. Remember to water these plants once a week. Submerge them in a tub with water and, let them soak for half an hour and, then dry them. After drying them you can return it to its designated spot.
